You don't have to keep fighting your thoughts.
ERP Therapy for OCD & Anxiety in RI, MA, and TN
Does this sound like you?
The thoughts keep coming. You keep fighting them. And you're exhausted.
You've tried to push the thoughts away. You've tried to reason with them, neutralize them, avoid the things that trigger them. Maybe you've developed rituals or routines that bring temporary relief — but the relief never lasts. Within minutes or hours, the cycle starts again.
ERP — Exposure and Response Prevention — is the gold-standard treatment for OCD. And it works. Not by eliminating anxiety, but by fundamentally changing your relationship with it.
Intrusive thoughts that feel impossible to ignore or dismiss
Compulsions that bring temporary relief but keep the cycle going
Constant doubt and the need for certainty that never fully comes
Avoiding situations, people, or places that trigger your anxiety
Exhaustion from fighting your own mind every single day
Anxiety isn't your enemy. Learning to work with it — instead of fighting it — changes everything.
How ERP works
You can learn to live without the constant noise.
ERP — Exposure and Response Prevention — works by gradually exposing you to the thoughts and situations that trigger your anxiety, while learning to sit with the discomfort without using compulsions to neutralize it. Don't let that sound scarier than it is. We start small. We build a personalized hierarchy — a roadmap of exposures ranging from mildly uncomfortable to things that feel completely impossible right now. We never start at the top. We go at your pace, always.
But here's what most people don't know about ERP — the exposure itself isn't the most important part. What actually creates change is learning to sit with the anxiety that comes up without doing anything to make it go away. Over time your brain learns that it can tolerate uncertainty — and that the thought doesn't have to mean anything. The cycle loses its power. The anxiety still shows up — but it no longer runs the show.
We also use ACT — Acceptance and Commitment Therapy — alongside ERP. ACT helps you change your relationship with your thoughts entirely. Instead of fighting them or trying to make them disappear, you learn to see them for what they are — just thoughts — and choose how to respond. Together ERP and ACT create real, lasting change.
And we don't stop at the surface. Underneath the intrusive thoughts and compulsions is a core fear, a core belief that's been quietly driving everything. That's what we actually work on together. Having trained in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for OCD, I know what this work looks like from the inside — and I know what's possible on the other side.

ERP has a reputation for being intense — and we won't pretend it's always comfortable. But it's not about being thrown into your worst fears. We start small, build slowly, and never go anywhere you're not ready to go. Most people are surprised by how manageable it feels once we get started. Learn more.

Talk therapy alone is often not effective for OCD — and can sometimes make it worse by reinforcing the cycle of reassurance-seeking. ERP is specifically designed to break the OCD cycle by changing your relationship with anxiety and uncertainty. If you've tried therapy before and felt like it didn't help, ERP may be what's been missing. Learn more.

Yes — eventually. But we always start at the bottom of your personalized hierarchy, not the top. By the time we work up to the harder exposures, what once felt impossible often starts to feel manageable. You'll have built real skills and confidence by then. Nothing happens before you're ready.
